The Mare Aperto Project was born in 2019 from the realization of how fundamental the sea is in the process of growth and autonomy of the individual, how it is an important resource for San Benedetto del Tronto and its inhabitants who in the sea and with the sea have grown up. The port of San Benedetto, a nerve center and reference point for nautical activities, not only in the province of Ascoli but also in the neighboring towns of Abruzzo, can play a role of primary importance for local communities. To date, although much progress is being made in beach accessibility, the enjoyment of this very important experiential resource is precluded to almost all people with reduced mobility, and it is a priority for our society to provide the tools so that anyone can access the boats independently. Experiencing the sea also means being able to immerse oneself in its peace and feel the wind and saltiness on one's skin, to have the freedom to learn the rudiments and techniques of sailing or motor boating; learning how to steer one's boat independently is the key to taking one's life back in hand, even after a serious physical and psychic trauma, which may have deprived us of autonomy and security taken too often for granted. Through this project, and with the involvement of local entities, institutions, businesses and sports clubs, Magesta OdV wants to embark on a path of gradual free access to the sea for all that starts from the floating structure and aims to create a completely barrier-free nautical ecosystem.
